Advanced Workshop: Digital Stencil Design for Ceramic Artists - Sunday 7/13
Sunday, July 13th, 1pm - 4pm
Instructor: Malaika Tolford
This intensive 3-hour workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced ceramic artists ready to elevate their surface decoration using digital stencil techniques.
In this three hour workshop we’ll be designing custom stencils and cutting them with a Cricut machine. We’ll then explore how they can be combined with surface techniques and materials including wax resist, slip, underglaze, and more.
You’ll experiment on provided test tiles in various stages from wet slabs to bisqued . You can take your samples with you to keep working on, or I can fire them in the studio for later pickup. You’re also welcome to bring a few small pieces of your own bisque ware to work on, such as small dishes and mugs.
We’ll be using apps on smartphones, tablets, or laptops to design stencils. If you don’t have a device, no problem—studio devices will be available. A few days before the workshop, you’ll receive an email with prep instructions to help you get the most out of your time in the workshop.
You’re encouraged to bring images and design ideas with you—either printed, saved digitally, or sketched ahead of time. Prefer to create on the spot? Drawing supplies will be on hand in the studio.
By the end, you’ll leave with 2–4 stencils to keep and a detailed info packet to help you revisit the process in your own studio. This is a fast-paced, technique-packed session, so expect to absorb a lot in a short time.
Workshop price includes all materials and tools, but if you have favorite brushes, wax, underglazes, feel free to bring them along. You’re also welcome to bring a few small pieces of bisqueware to work on.
Workshops are nonrefundable. Please review our cancellation policies on our FAQ page.
